Mount Pleasant Affordable Housing

The City of Calgary engaged Robert Pashuk Architecture Inc. to act as Bridging Consultant for the proposed Mount Pleasant Affordable Housing Project. The role of Bridging Consultant is to work with the City’s internal and external consultants to facilitate the delivery of a prefabricated or modular affordable housing project of 16 (sixteen) units in the Community of Mount Pleasant.

This proposed development is a 16-unit affordable housing project, including two fully accessible units and two adaptable units designed for future barrier-free capabilities. Given the pressing demand for such housing solutions in Calgary the proposed project must utilize a modular construction approach. This approach is intended to expedite the construction process for this project, and to also act as a pilot project for similar future CHC (Calgary Housing Corporation) affordable housing developments.

The design intention is twofold: first, to pay homage to the historic community and the original homes in the neighborhood, and second, to create a sense of community within a multi-family development. The goal is to make residents feel like they are part of a single “home” building. People living here should feel a sense of ownership and individualism, but overall feel part of their building’s community as well.
